Chesters was great. Ellie and family were fantastic. The tents were comfy and nice. The hot tub was perfect. To be able to slow down, stop and "just be" is rare these days. All we really had to worry about was making fire to cook and heat up the hot tub. Since we flew from Germany and spent time in the bigger cities in southern Scotland, we came with public transport and taxi to Chesters. That meant we just stayed on site. We walked to Ancrum twice - once to get some food to cook (since the bothy is very limited in food) and once to have dinner at Ancrum Cross Keys. With a car, our food choices would've been able to be less camping and more glamping, but not having a car also allowed us to just stop and enjoy.

I came here with my partner and my 6 year old daughter. Went at the end of Sept and was really lucky with the weather - mild and dry! There's lots of exploring to be done.. We took fishing rods and a dinghy and had fun on the nearby river as well as foraging for wood and looking for mini beasts. It's such a safe place for children to play. ||We stayed in the 'osprey' tent which is a bit more tucked away. It has all the mod cons, flushing loo and wood fired stove etc. Clean linen and towels provided. Hot tub (No bubbles) was a lovely extra and much utilised along with plenty of gin! The host, Ellie couldn't do enough for us - checking in to make sure we had what we needed. ||The tents are about a 7 min walk from the main car park so if it's muddy you would need wellies! You are supplied with a wheelbarrow to get your things from A to B. ||||It's lovely and clean and you are provided with little extras such as matches, candles and washing up cloth plus you are welcome to go into the cottage garden and pick whatever is in season. My daughter loved the golden raspberries! ||||All in all, a really comfortable enjoyable stay and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

We have loved every second of our family stay at Chesters Featherdown. The perfect place to unwind and enjoy the slower pace of life for a few days. We could not have been made to feel more welcome by Ellie and family, wonderful hosts. We especially enjoyed the harvest in the allotment, swimming in the river and evenings in the hot tub as the sun went down. We will be back.

Chesters comes highly recommended not least because of Ellie who is a fantastic host. The location is beautiful, the perfect family break away from the trappings of modern life. We have now been twice as our kids loved it the first time - the river, the woods, the fruit and veg in the walled garden, the tree house, the open fires and not forgetting the hot tub… love it! We’ll be back.
