Excursion to historic cities

Explore Tuscany's historic cities from glamping La Chiocciola. Siena, famous for its horse races, is just over half an hour away. Arezzo is about the same distance away and has a beautiful center bursting with piazzas, restaurants, and narrow streets. Florence is the largest city in the area and can be reached after an hour's drive. Dive into the museums, enjoy an ice cream near the cathedral, and cross the river via the Ponte Vecchio. Drive south? Then after 50 minutes, you will arrive in Montepulciano. A small town situated on a hill, where you can drink the tastiest wines and enjoy an impressive view of the hilly landscape.

Arezzo, Italy, Tuscany

Taste the wines of the Chianti region

Camping La Chiocciola is a glamping site with luxury safari tents set among rolling hills and vineyards. When staying in the Chianti region, it is, therefore, worth visiting a vineyard and doing a wine tasting. Head towards Enoteca Falorni, Marchesi Mazzei Cellar or Tenuta Casanova about an hour away. They are also happy to inform you at the reception about vineyards in the area.

A day trip to Lake Trasimeno

Take the car and take a trip to Lake Trasimeno, which is about a 45-minute drive from the glamping site. Lake Trasimeno is the largest lake in central and southern Italy and offers plenty of activities to fill a day. Find a spot on one of the beaches, visit the quaint waterfront towns, or take a boat trip to one of the islands in the lake.

Hiking through Pratomagno

About an hour's drive from the glamping is the mountain area of Pratomagno. This hilly area is the ideal place for peaceful walks through Italian nature. Enjoy the tranquility, great views, and fresh air. One, almost literal, the highlight is Croce del Pratomagno. This large metal cross stands on a mountain peak 1594 meters high. Walk across meadows, along streams, and spot cows in the summer. One of the trails toward this extraordinary cross starts from Monte Lori, a 45-minute drive from the glamping site. Follow the Cai 00 trail and, after a route of about 10 kilometers, reach this summit. Bring plenty of water, some snacks and enjoy an active day in the beautiful Tuscan countryside.

I have been to this campsite on two occasions, once in a tent, once in a mobile home . The pitches are large and easily accessible and the bathroom/shower area is very clean. The pools are also clean, again there is ample room for all* (even on weekends despite the pools being open to outsiders). Everywhere (at the receptionist, at the little restaurant offering some simple dishes, in the pool bar, in interactions with the lifeguards) I found a lot of friendliness and helpfulness. Great both for exploring the area by spending nights in the cool (in late July, I slept in a tent in my light sleeping bag) and for relaxing and sunbathing.

Good pitches with electricity, water, sink. Toilets without coat hooks, no shelves. Internet almost non-existent. Just fine for one night. Otherwise less recommendable.

Great campsite, large pitches and if you like swimming, 3 beautiful pools, one of which is a large shallow pool for the little ones and loungers with shade. Friendly and helpful staff, convenient little tap with sink at the tent, train station (by car nearby) for Florance and other cities. We enjoyed ourselves there, highly recommended!!!

We recently stayed in one of the four Nomad tents where we booked through Villatent. ||The location was very close to the wedding venue that we were attending. ||The pitch was spacious and the condition of the tent was really good. ||The facilities in the campsite were not all available, the shop, bar and pool bar were closed. If the facilities close out of season this should be listed on the Villatent website and the months they are not available. ||The pool needs a lot of maintenance. ||Cleanliness in the tent was good, the touch points were clean however there was a large build up of dust and spiderwebs in places. ||Security at the campsite was poor, gates remained open all night. ||The owners of the site need to address the noise from nearby venues, there was loud rave music on Friday and Saturday night until 2:30am in the morning.

Our experience with Camping La Chiocciola was unfortunately disappointing. We stayed in a luxury accommodation, which was nice in itself, but the campsite itself did not meet our expectations based on the information on the website. It was promised that there would be entertainment for children in July and August, but this turned out not to be the case at all. This was a big disappointment for us and our 6-year-old son, who was often bored as a result. The playground is outdated and poorly maintained, which made us concerned about its safety. In addition, the promised well-stocked mini-market was virtually empty and thus not suitable for shopping. The sports fields that were promoted were overgrown and unusable. The restaurant L'Antico Portale, which was described as an upscale eatery, had been closed for a very long time, which was a great loss during our stay. The swimming pool is a public pool used by the campground. This ensures that on weekends it can be very crowded with local visitors, leaving little space available for campground guests. It was a quiet campground with few children, which may appeal to some families, but for us it meant there was little social interaction and play opportunities for our child. The campground certainly has potential, but its current condition and lack of promised facilities make it difficult to recommend this campground. We hope the new owner makes the necessary improvements to meet the expectations of future guests.
